Read during a time where the loss of a loved one was fresh, your host Emani Glee, will curate a space for readers to explore the depths of their own grief, but also what it means to find the light on the other side.
In Before I Let Go, award-winning author, Kennedy Ryan, handled heavy themes of grief and depression with immense care and intention that was validating for every reader who has experienced loss.
While the loss the characters experienced may be different than your own, grief has no boundaries.
It is with this knowing in mind, the healing we seek to reduce the aching in our hearts and minds can be found in activities that we may have never considered.
Together we will explore a variety of ways to take care of ourselves after loss, while connecting with other readers in community to uplift and empower each other as we learn to navigate life’s ebbs and flows.
In an interview, Kennedy said she wanted the book to balance grief and joy, so although we're dealing with heavy topics, there will be lots of fun and laughs too!

Message From The Host
I've always wanted to be someone who fill voids by creating spaces for us by us, but I didn't know how I'd go about it.
Creation often happens when trying to solve problems.
Personally, I have always felt odd being a Black woman who loves reading. Growing up, reading was never the "cool" hobby. I didn't know anyone who also felt immense joy simply by walking around a bookstore or library. I've also struggled to make friends as an adult.
Discovering bookish social media solved both problems for me!
Once I finally decided to indulge my wanderlust, I thought why not combine bookish meetups with travel!
I hosted my first retreat in Paris May 2023 and I truly couldn't be happier with how it turned out. Paris was a big deal for me because, like many readers, I'm an introvert.
The way we excitedly talked about our favorite reads and eventually everything else, you could hardly tell that we were strangers before this - that's what community is all about.
This time around, I felt called to host a much different experience, centered around mental health, after being inspired by the best-selling novel, Before I Let Go. It encouraged me to intentionally release the pain and heaviness of my grief, instead of burying it.
I curated a safe space where together, we will explore how to take intentional care of ourselves after loss while connecting with other readers in community to uplift and empower each other as we learn to navigate through life’s ebbs and flows.
I've already started to be more proactive about trying new things like taking a beginner pottery class, signing up for a floral arrangement workshop, and started searching for a therapist.
Whatever you discover is your way of coping with your emotions, we are here to support you on your journey of hope and healing.
I hope to see you in Atlanta!
